IPL is an Intense Pulse Light flash
lamp using scattered beams of light to remove unwanted hair and
treat skin ageing.
What is Intense Pulse Light ( I2 PL)?
IPL stands for Intense Pulse Light. Lynne has imported the Ellipse
2nd Generation IPL machine from Denmark - a revolutionary machine
with the latest proven technology in hair removal and photo rejuvenation.
How does it work?
The Ellipse flash lamp produces light which is carefully
filtered before it reaches the skin; this ensures that only light
of the correct 'types' (wavelengths) are allowed to reach the
skin - the non-useful wavelengths are removed by the filters.
The light that is allowed through has been chosen because it is
the sort that two natural body substances respond to, melanin and
oxy-haemoglobin.
The age spots and hair contain the substance called melanin and
the blood vessels contain another called oxy-haemoglobin. When
cells containing a lot of melanin or oxy-haemoglobin are hit with
the right type of light, they heat up and are destroyed within
a few thousandths of one second.
In addition I2 PL has an indirect effect on collagen
synthesis causing the heated area to stimulate the fibroblast
to make more collagen, plump up the skin, improve structural
integrity, skin density and strength.
For Hair Removal and Skin Rejuvenation
I2 PL produces a beam of highly concentrated
light that is attracted to melanin, which is found in hair and
skin. As the melanin absorbs the light it produces heat which
causes the thermal destruction of the area. This causes the hairs
growth to be significantly impeded or eliminated, typically in
4 to 7 treatments.
The depth of the melanin pigment will determine the number of treatments.
I2 PL is limited to treating only those hairs containing
melanin pigment, so blonde, red or grey hair can be treated after
using a natural melanin spray for 2 - 6 weeks prior to beginning
treatment, or alternatively can be treated with electrolysis.
